Just got my copy of Journey’s latest album “Revelation” with Arnel Pineda doing the lead vocals. It has peaked as the No. 1 Independent Album in the Billboard charts. Its exclusively distributed by Wal-Mart in North America, so I had to ask my wife to ask her friend to ask her husband who’s in the states for a brief sojourn to ask his friend to bring the copy back here in the Philippines. I just paid more than a 500 bucks, well, for 2 CDs and 1 DVD on one of their live concerts. Disc 1 contains their latest songs and Disc 2, re-recordings of their old hits. I listened to it already, and watched the DVD. It’s all worth it. Arnel Pineda is indeed, in his own words, ”rockin’ the world”.
Tito rolly, more than that their very humble beginnings, the great challenges they had to hurdle, their life’s stories as a whole, make their achievements all the more inspiring.
Posted by siu at September 22, 2008, 10:28 amI just watched the concert of Journey last week here in the Bay Area, California, about 40 miles from San Francisco. To sound like an American, I would say: AWESOME!!!
I never been prouder of our Filipino home grown singing talent invading the U.S. audience until I saw Arnel Pineda with Journey headlining a concert with two other great bands: Cheap Tricks and Hearts. With an audience of 20,000 predominantly whites, Arnel simply captivated the audience with his 90-minute performance showcasing his soulful interpretation of Journey’s songs; his tenor vocal range; and his ability to exploit the stage with his dashing turning and leaping moves that awed the audience on their feet and jolted them for more noise that totally rocked and brought the house down.
It was a reminiscence of being in the audience in a gym with a full house capacity for the intramurals basketball championship rivalry between Commerce and Engineering back in my college days at USC Cebu. I couldn’t ask for more. It was all worth for months of waiting, and for the after-effects of watching the show: losing my voice for shouting my lungs out and for experiencing a hearing distortion that lingered the following day for hours after exposing myself to the eardrum-busting concert decibels of Journey.
And most of all it was all worth for being an Arnel’s advocate — searching You Tube or “googling” the web in search for Arnel’s updates and picking on personally, posters or bloggers who simply dislike him for being an Asian to lead and all-American band.
Arnel is the best singer out there to lead Journey and Filipinos must be proud of him.
