Did I read it right? Or do my eyes finally need some glasses?
I wouldn't know who made this entry in Wikipedia but he really needs to disclose what his sources are in declaring that Baybay City has "a small amount of smart people."
Was his finding based on some credible survey, or from a study of the quality of education its schools have, or the actual literacy rate the population has, or was such a mere inference drawn from the quality of elected officials the new city has? Yipes.
This is my hometown. I'm probably not that smart to know the answer. Whoa.
(UPDATE: It was of course a trickster who has nothing worthwhile to do at the time who probably came up with the idea of a nasty description of the city. Obviously, he doesn't exactly have the kind of grammar to die for. A friend and a Baybayano, Michael Filosofo took the initiative of editing the wikipedia entry and deleted the phrase "small amount of smart people." You will not anymore see this in the wikipedia entry.)
There’s no point in protesting Wikipedia, you can just edit it.
:-) yeah anyone can edit the entries. I made the post because i was intrigued by what was on the mind of the wiki vandal, and why he made the edit. of course there’s no point taking it seriously though
Posted by siu at November 6, 2007, 2:54 pmlol. good thing someone edited it.

Posted by siu at December 19, 2007, 4:34 pmDEAR,
I DONT CARE FOR THAT CRITIC WHAT I CARE IS THAT WE HAVE PROGRESS IN OUR PLACE.
SHOKRAN,
Posted by EDUARD at December 21, 2007, 3:41 amhello BAYBAYON!
MERRY CHRISTMAS!!! AND GO FOR PROGRESS OF OUR CITY!
Eduard, while I very much share your sense of pride in Baybay being made a city, I do hope however that your idea of “progress” is not based on the mere fact that the town has become a city, but rather on some other tangibles such as better employment opportunities for the people, more investments, better politics, less graft and corruption, marked improvement in infrastractures, healthcare and education, etc. If you suppose that citihood spurs economic progress then you’re wrong- good, effective, and transparent governance do.
Posted by siu at December 21, 2007, 12:32 pmlan,
good day! advertise your webpage in Baybay. Make a forum or commentary intitled ” hisgot baybay” I think this is a good idea to make people who govern baybay awake all the time. Mag bibisaya kung mag binisaya basta maka buhagay sa unsay nagustuhan o dili magustuhan sa bag ong syudad..
p2k
Posted by p2k at February 9, 2008, 1:39 amp2k, its a good idea. Probably i’ll have it on a separate weblog. But since i’m not based there, and is not updated with the goings-on, i might continuously need some inputs.
btw, could you give me your id please, location also - via email if you want. thanks
An Open Letter to my fellow Leyteños and Our Elected Officials:
Dear Government Officials of Leyte and Fellow Leyteños:
Many ask me why Leyte is still among the most depressed provinces or still poor despite its being so close to power during the Marcos dictatorship, why it’s electricity rate is still among the highest in the country even if it has a geothermal plant. I don’t answer because these are statements disguised as questions.
Lately, they ask me why do people from Leyte fail to see the crimes of the present administration. I don’t think so, I said. The opposition won in our province in the last senatorial elections, I’ve been told. I add: God gives every man, whether he resides in the jungles or in the city, the capacity to think.
But I’m afraid that the squatters in Malacañang, in private and with so much contempt for us, think we are all idiots. Can we not tell them they are wrong?
The country is now on trial. Every Filipino is being called upon to stand for up for truth, to moderate, if not put an end to the boundless greed of an illegitimate president. This administration of gangsters has robbed not just the country’s wealth, but also of what remains, however little, of the Filipinos’, the young especially, respect for institutions. We can not be a party to this national pillage!
The time has put to test everybody’s sense of right and wrong.
People from all walks of life saw how the great liars of this regime tried to hide the truth in regard to the abduction of Jun Lozada. Arroyo’s apologists, in their desperate bid to convince us with their idiotic version, are indirectly saying we are a country without logic or common sense.
It’s high time that local politicians took the right side of history. Politicians took the side of the much hated and ruthless dictator Ferdinand Marcos. Marcos was eventually ousted. No tyrant can stay in power forever. The people will find a way of restoring their self-respect as they yearn for freedom.
When I read the news that almost all representatives from Leyte joined the President’s trip to Europe, a travel frowned upon by every decent man or woman I’ve known, I fell from my seat. “Do Leyteños like to travel for free?,” a Cebuano sarcastically asked me. I could not answer. But I am giving our representatives the benefit of the doubt.
Many times I’ve tried to put myself on politician’s shoes. I’ve been told that local officials especially from the province have to knock at Malacanang’s door; otherwise, they will not be receiving like what Governor Panlilio once received (which he returned).
For this reason, they don’t care about national issues that affect the country. They don’t care if the whole country is in crisis.
I’ve tried to understand. But is there not an end to every pragmatism? Isn’t national interest as important, if not more, as the Presiden’ts desire for political survival?
My friends tell me this appeal to politicians is an absolute waste of time. There’s no way they would listen to their conscience; politicians don’t have it in the first place, my friends add. I’m not discouraged by such a statement. “Man is good by nature,” says my professor.
Ninoy came back to the Philippines with the strong belief that there is little Jesus in every man’s heart. I believe in the same way. I’ve always trusted in the nobility of man, politician or not.
The people have already rejected this regime, and no force in the world can stop them. May we never be left behind again as the bus of history takes another significant trip!
To our elected government officials, please understand that GMA has no more moral authority to govern. Leave her and her gang of thieves! To my fellow Leyteños, fight back!
God bless Leyte! God bless the Philippines!
Serve the people,
ALVIN TRUYA
Proud Leyteño

Posted by julz at June 18, 2008, 10:19 pmJulz, i would suppose you are smart. But you completely misread this post. Read the article again and understand what it tries to convey. If you still can’t understand it, read it again, if again you can’t understand, have someone smarter explain it to you.
Hey.. enough with the hati’n..
I grew up and studied in Cebu but my parents are living in Baybay so basically I was in baybay whenever I got a free time or whenever I had a vacation..I always enjoy the time I had in Baybay, the peaceful surroundings the friendly people and etc.. Now that I’m in Fort Walton Beach Florida I don’t have the luxury to go to Baybay as often as I can even if I have some spare time..
I miss my parents and I miss the darn place, the people?-I miss their hospitality…
anyways just Don’t mind the topic ” small amount of smart people”.. we don’t need to go down to their level.. we know what is the truth and reality but we should also could not discount the fact that there are really DUMB-ASS in Baybay ESPECIALLY THE VOTERS
I MEAN C’MMON OUR LEADERS/POLITICS THERE HAS BEEN SITTING FOR A LONG PERIOD OF TIME.. I KNOW BAYBAY NOW IS A CITY AND IT’S A BIG LEAP FROM THE BABAY PROVINCE BUT FOR CHRIST SAKE OUR POLITICIANS/LEADERS ARE RELATED TO EACH OTHER-THEY ARE NOT JUST RELATED BUT THEIR GODDAMN IN ONE IMMEDIATELY FAMILY..
I WAS TOLD THAT THE PUBLIC MARKET IS STILL NOT DONE?? MY GOD I WAS STILL IN THE PHILIPPINES WHEN THAT MARKET WAS BUILT!!
ALSO THE GYM!! IT LOOKS LIKE A CRAP!! IT WAS AS CRAP AS SH#T! I WAS STILL A KID WHEN IT WAS BUILT AND IT WAS STILL NOT DONE WHEN I LEFT!
AND IF OUR POLITICIANS WILL SAY THAT IT’S DONE WITH THE CONSTRUCTION? WHERE THE HELL DID THEY GOT THE IDEA OF DESIGNING THAT CRAPPED ASS GYM? IT WAS OPEN IN THE SIDE AND RAINS CAN GET IN PLUS IT STINKS!!
GODDAMN OUR LEADERS WHO ARE THEY FOOLI’N? WE EDUCATED PEOPLE OF BAYBAY WILL GET HURT IF WE READ NASTY THINGS ABOUT BAYBAY BUT THE PEOPLE IN BAYBAY ARE FOOLED BY THE POLITICIANS!!
ANYWAYS I REST MY CASE!!
I THINK THE POLITICIANS THERE ARE JUST HUNGRY FOR POWER THAT THEY CAN NEVER LET GO!!
I DOUBT IF THERE WILL BE ANY CHANGE IN THE LEADERSHIP WHEN I GO BACK HOME!
THE CASE IS HOPELESS!!! AND OUR LEADERS ARE PHONIES AND THEY ALWAYS HORSE AROUND!!
AGAIN I REST MY CASE!
SEE YOU NEXT YEAR PROBABLY IN DECEMBER PEOPLE IN BAYBAY!!
Posted by THEGAMEFAS at August 13, 2008, 11:29 amhey people, just an update, Baybay City has been stripped of its cityhood just recently. i just hope Baybay would still grow and provide more job opportunities for the local people so that the smart people of Baybay will not have to go to other places like Cebu, maybe that’s what that guy meant when he said there are few smart people in Baybay because all the smart ones left!
Posted by aileen at November 20, 2008, 12:20 pmMs. Aileen i saw a sign that those few smart people left from Baybay is coming back. Atty. Siu has already his law office at Plaza Hotel.
Posted by Ettu at March 12, 2009, 1:19 pmI am proud to be a Baybayano. But I cannot say I am proud of our leaders.
We have yet to produce the likes of Hagedorn of Palawan (environmental concern), Robredo of Naga City(efficiency and integrity), Panlilio of Pampanga (incorruptibility), Padaca of Isabela (incorruptibilty), Binay of Makati (real social services), Duterte of Davao (political will), Gordon of Olongapo, etc.
God bless Baybay!
